Neon Wars

I was inspired by a captivating exhibit called Neon Vancouver, Ugly Vancouver at the Museum of Vancouver, where the curators and archivists displayed old neon signs from around the Lower Mainland. I believe North Vancouver and neon lights share the same physiognomies of being vintage-looking and shiny, which gives off a great vibe that is crucial to a unique city. I wanted to shed light on how North Vancouver might have looked if people hadn’t protested the use of neon sign back in the 1960’s and ‘70’s, by incorporating neon lights layered on top of the iconic “Q” sign of Lonsdale Quay. Though neon lights might be disused, their attractive beauty, their story, and their blinding glow will remain memorable.
